Birds are an amazing and diverse group of animals. Birds are well known for their ability to take flight. Not only are they experts in the sky, but they come in a wide range of sizes and colours. As we can not take flight like birds, it is possible to keep birds as pets and observe there unique nature.There is an extensive variety of domesticated birds.ie parrots, lovebirds, cockatoos, cockatiel's, Amazons, Conures and macaws. There is also non parrot type birds such as canaries, finches. As we find most common pet birds like budgies, cockatiel's, canaries and finches are of the smaller species.

keep an eye on your birds behaviour any sudden
change could lead to illness.

most birds require playful attention, especially young ones.

Keep bird cages in a safe location, away from direct
sunlight, cold temperatures. also away from fumes

If you notice your bird needs nails or beak trimming.
Always ask your vet for advice before attempting this your self.


The 38th annual Members' Show of the Newark and District
Cage Bird Society was held in St Mary's Rooms on a Saturday.

All previous records of the society were broken with a total
of 273 entries.

The best bird in show was an unflighted Buff Border canary
exhibited by J. Parker of Newark.

The most interesting exhibit was a Waxwing shown in
superb condition by Mr Hebblewhite of Lincoln, which
secured for him the British Trophy.


Newark & District Cage Bird Society records can be dated as
far back as 1910.
